Inspirational Exercise: The Window to the Future

This meditation is from The Relax Deck: 50 Meditations published by Duncan Baird Publishers Ltd. I chose it for this week(end) because a good friend of mine wrote many entries on her blog about dwelling in the past and the fear that grips us by the thought of moving forward. It got me thinking of the many times I think back and that thought paralyses me and I stay exactly where I am. Change is inevitable so why not embrace it?!

"We often dwell on the past because we are fearful of the future, but in order to progress we have to move on. Imagine yourself looking out through the window of the present at a peaceful stretch of beautiful countryside. This is the land of the future. In your mind's eye, open the window and let in the gentle winds of change. There is nothing to fear; you can embrace the future with confidence."

Take a few minutes out of your busy day and allow yourself to become lost in your imagination; at lunchtime, in the bathroom, before you go into a meeting (or possibly even in the meeting - just don't get caught). The more you practice, the easier it becomes to relax. Or sit down at night before you go to sleep, look at the picture or a favorite landscape picture that of your choice, read the text and let your mind wander...
